PIZZA SNOB RATING ****1/2 Nearer Perfection
If you called Naples Pizza last week to order a pie, here is the recorded message you may have heard from a familiar female voice:
“Yes, I would like to inform my customers that this Sunday (12/20/15) will be our last night. Take advantage because Naples will no longer be around.”
The home of the “ultra-thin, get two for one on Mon-Wed-Sun pizza special,” is no more. The owner decided it was time to retire and shut down the oven. One of Bayonne’s true pizza legends is gone, and with all of the development going on in the Peninsula City, I’d be surprised to see a pizza joint show up in such a prime location.

When I was a young guy (10,11)-I’m 63 years old now. My Mom and Dad used to close their little luncheonette in Jersey City on Saturday night around 8:00 pm (after a long work week) and either drive up the Hudson (now Kennedy) Boulevard or the faster route the fairly new exit (using the new exit extension off the N.J. Turnpike) and drive to Broadway in Bayonne- a block from the local Dairy Queen (oh the memories) and enjoy the best pizza (very thin slice)..made with tender loving care by the chef/owner. I’d watch the teenagers arrive after their dances or activities and enjoy the music they put on the jukebox (like It’s my Party and Easier Said then Done and the like). What a great time it was!!!! But oh, when the pizza with sausage arrive (my Dad would kiss his thumb and forefinger and say Madone! as in Oh Lord…the best!! Mark G.
